Sichuan, the center of middle-west China is one of the most beautiful and developed provinces, however, on 12 May 2008 at 2.28 p.m., a 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Sichuan. It was the twelfth most destructive earthquake in human history and the largest disaster in China since the Tangshan earthquake in 1976. There are totally 87,000 casualties and 46 million people in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Chongqing are affected by the earthquake. Tremors were even felt by residents in Beijing and Shanghai, a thousand miles away (Bin). The earthquake causes a huge economy loss and severe citizen casualties. It 's severity and influence are incredible. Because of damage to Sichuan’s easily destroyed, rugged mountain roads, Most of the big machines, vehicles and equipment cannot reach the disaster places. The first group of responders and soldiers had to reach the epicenter on foot. Sometimes, they have to dig out their way themselves, because of the collapse of the mountain. Moreover, Phone services in many areas were completely disrupted. People cannot use phones to ask for help. As a result, the process of rescue is full of difficulties and dilemmas. On the other hand, the earthquake and difficulties display Chinese people’s different reactions to the disaster. During the catastrophe, some people are brave and generous while some other people are timid and selfish. Except sadness and grief, people also have anger and disappointment.
