My dream for the future is shaped by my experience in the past. I was born 20 years back in a rural village in Nepal, where I spent my early days. Nepal is also known as one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world with nearly half of its population living below the poverty line. Over 80 percent of the population relies on agriculture for their livelihood. The majority of the population lives in rural areas that are often very difficult to reach, resulting in a lack of basic infrastructure and facilities such as clean water, healthcare, education facilities, transportation and communication. I still remember those days when my father had to walk for 2 days just to get to his college for higher education. My father’s diligence and dedication made it possible for him to achieve a Masters in multiple disciplines and provide me with a better education than what he was able to get for himself. He is one of my biggest motivations to study medicine and challenge myself to expand and adapt my knowledge to take on any new experience. My father helped me shape my "never-do-it-easy" mentality. That mentality aided me in facing the challenges of moving to the United States which is a drastically different culture than Nepal and assimilating here.
Most importantly, learning medicine will make it possible for me to help the communities that exist around the world which are very similar to the one I grew up in, and where they lack of access to basic health care. My mom…
