The following is a partial exert from Granite Construction Company’s Code of Conduct.

“Our Code of Conduct embodies the vision of our company’s founders and encompasses the values that have been and will continue to be vital to Granite’s success. Our Core Values represent how we treat one another, deal with our customers, respond to stakeholders, and hold each other and ourselves accountable. This is the legacy we will leave for generations to come. The following nine Core Values represent the foundation of our Code of Conduct. Although achieving these high standards may be difficult, we nonetheless aspire to uphold them as we live our lives and conduct our business: Safety, Honesty, Integrity, Fairness, Accountability, Consideration of Others, Pursuit of Excellence, Reliability, and Citizenship. Even though federal laws to uphold a certain degree of ethical standards govern Granite Construction, they consider their core values the driving force behind every project and dealing they conduct. However, many companies do not practice a high ethical standard and are content with just following the generic ethical principal of Universalism. This principle believes that society should obey certain behaviors, such as not committing murdering, stealing, killing, discriminating, or acting deceitful, but instead should have honesty, fairness, and integrity in order to co-exist.
